Tips to Take Care of Oily Skin Daily

Our skin is a source of natural oils that keep the skin moisturized and healthy, but when the oil-producing glands start to secrete excess sebum, it leads to oily skin. Taking care of oily skin is challenging due to shiny complexion and acne breakouts. Here are some tips and Acne Treatment Kit that can help you to take care of oily skin daily.

Characteristics of Oily Skin and Its Causes

Oily skin appears shiny and greasy, especially throughout the T-zone. The pores look more prominent, and makeup slips off quickly. In addition, oily skin tends to be more susceptible to clogged pores, acne, and breakouts.

Oily skin happens due to intensified sebum production by the hyperactivity of sebaceous glands. Many factors are responsible for oily skin, including genetics, poor skincare routine, stress, and harsh ingredients.

Cleanse Your Face Twice a Day

Oily skin does not need excessive cleansing. However, most people with this skin type keep cleansing their faces to remove the excess sebum. In fact, washing your face more than twice a day can overdry your skin and trigger the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. Foaming and gel-based cleansers are ideal for oily skin. Salicylic acid, Niacinamide, Glycolic acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, and natural extracts like lemon or tea tree oil are the ingredients that gently remove the impurities from the skin and leave a fresh and mattifying effect.

Use a Toner

A toner is an essential skincare product  for oily skin. It helps to remove pore-clogging residues left after cleansing. Go for an alcohol-free toner, which provides intense cleansing to pores without irritation. In addition, it keeps your skin refreshed and hydrated without stripping off essential oils. You should look for ingredients in toner: witch hazel, Allantoin, alpha hydroxy acids, or salicylic acid.

Use an Oil-free Moisturizer

You might be tempted to skip on a moisturizer because of your oily skin. However, all skin types need hydration. The lack of moisture stimulates your skin glands to produce more oil. Choose an oil-free and non-comedogenic formula to seal essential moisture in the skin without clogging your pores. A lightweight gel formula infused with humectants like hyaluronic acid or glycerin is best for oily and acne-prone skin.

Choose a Water-based and Matte Sunscreen

The top reason people with oily skin avoid wearing sunscreen is due to its sticky and greasy formula. Instead, choose gel or water-based sunscreen to leave your skin looking matte. Also, don’t forget to apply an SPF 30 or higher on rainy days or overcast days. Zinc and titanium are considered the hero ingredients in sunscreen as they do not trigger breakouts or irritation.

Exfoliate Oily Skin Weekly

Exfoliation helps to unclog pores and prevent pimples. Use a chemical or physical exfoliator weekly to remove the excess oil and dead skin cells. Salicylic acid is the ideal chemical exfoliant for oily skin. It gets into pores, removes all the junk, and helps to get rid of pimples and blackheads. Limit your exfoliating sessions to once or twice a week.
