A Simple Daytime Skincare Routine

By Summer Summit

A simple skincare routine is necessary for each skin type, no matter if you have dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, or sensitive skin. Understanding why you need a routine and how to take care of your skin type is essential. In addition, you can learn more about specific products that work best for each type of complexion and even find out what order they should be used in. Here is a basic order if you're confused about what to include in your routine: cleanser, toner, serum or oil, moisturizer, and sunscreen.

Start with a Cleanser

A cleanser should be the first step in any skincare routine. Depending on your skin type, you may require to adjust your basic skincare routine accordingly.  When looking for a cleanser, it is essential to look at the ingredients, as they should be specifically tailored to your individual skin type. Look for hydrating oils or natural extracts like aloe vera, chamomile extract, ginger extract, brown algae extract, vitamin B5, shea butter, and glycerin for dry, normal, and sensitive skin. These are the best known to provide hydration and nourishment to the skin.  An ideal cleanser for oily or combination skin should contain ingredients like salicylic acid, which helps to unclog pores, prevent acne breakouts, and reduce excess sebum production. Salicylic acid works by exfoliating the skin and removing dead cells from the surface, allowing other products to penetrate more deeply. Additionally, it helps to regulate oil production in the skin, reducing shine and creating a matte finish.

Use a Toner

After cleansing the face, a toner helps to remove any remaining dirt and oil from the skin. Depending on your skin type, different types of toners can be used to get the best results. For example, a vitamin C toner is an ideal choice for dry skin as it helps keep the skin hydrated and nourished. On the other hand, using a salicylic acid toner for oily or combination skins will help clear away excess oils and reduce breakouts. Additionally, facial toners help balance out the skin's pH and act as an astringent that can help tighten pores. Overall, facial toner is vital for maintaining healthy-looking skin after cleansing.

Apply a Facial Serum

Using a facial serum after cleansing and toning is integral to any good skincare routine. Facial serums are packed with powerful ingredients that can help nourish and protect the skin from damage. For example, hyaluronic acid is an excellent ingredient in serums, as it helps hydrate and plump the skin while increasing its elasticity. In addition, you can look for Vitamins F, E, Lipids, or vitamin C. All these ingredients can help you achieve smoother, younger-looking skin in no time.

Layer a Moisturizer

Moisturizer is a crucial part of a morning skincare routine, regardless of skin type and age. Moisturizers help keep skin healthy and hydrated by locking in moisture and preventing dryness. When choosing a moisturizer, look for a lightweight formula that quickly absorbs into the skin without feeling greasy. It should be rich in antioxidants to help protect against environmental stressors, such as air pollution and UV rays. A moisturizer also helps minimize the look of wrinkles and fine lines. It's essential to use a moisturizer that suits your skin type; look for one that's oil-free or noncomedogenic if you have oily or acne-prone skin, while those with dry skin should look for something more hydrating.

Finish with a Sunscreen

When taking care of your skin, don't forget to finish with sunscreen! Sunscreen is crucial for protecting your skin from sun damage and UV rays. Unfortunately, many people make the mistake of skipping this critical step in their skincare routine. A product with SPF 40 and zinc oxide is an excellent facial sunscreen option. Zinc oxide is a natural mineral that can provide broad-spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays. It's also gentle on the skin and won't clog pores or irritate sensitive skin like some chemical sunscreens can do. So don't forget the importance of finishing with sunscreen to protect your skin!
